Chapitre 6: Kokoro no Tsuyosa | Strength of the Heart
With an interest in Syaoran and his fire-wielding kudan, Shougo continues to pelt attacks with his water-using kudan. Syaoran blocks them all, protecting the two boys. Shougo then introduces himself and Syaoran echoes the introduction. The cops begin to arrive and the team members alert their leaders. With a disappointed sigh, Shougo and his group leave before they can be arrested.
When the gang is gone, Syaoran's kudan disappears back inside his body. Syaoran turns to the two kids to see how they are when one of them disappears into the body of the other. Faye realizes that the other kid was actually a kudan. Syaoran-tachi then notice Mokona is missing and with a quick search, spot him with a group of school girls. Mokona explains that he had fallen from Kurogane's shoulder but aside from that, he had felt the feather nearby and no one noticed.
Masayoshi introduces himself and wants to thank them for their help. Hungry, Mokona wants to eat and Masayoshi agrees to take them somewhere. All of them settle around a table and watch the food cooking before them. They're having okonomiyaki, a staple dish in Hanshin. The entire time, Kurogane is intently watching his share cook as Mokona plays around on his head. Masayoshi is surprised when they admit to not knowing what okonomiyaki is. Faye only vaguely replies that they are from "outside" and then asks about the battle they saw. It had been a territorial battle between teams to see who had stronger kudans. The strongest would, of course, keep the territory.
Syaoran doesn't altogether approve of the battles taking place in public areas filled with people while Masayoshi interjects that even if there were bad teams, there were also good teams. He becomes excited as he talks about Shougo's group, who are essentially "good" (even if they did wreck the occasional building) and really strong and cool. They wonder about the talk about a "special kudan" and it seems that's the top of the food chain, with level one to four kudan below it. He also explains that to have a special kudan, you can't maintain it unless you had a strong heart because the kudan would leave you. Masayoshi is also rather ashamed of his fourth-level kudan.
Kurogane picks up his spatula as the okonomiyaki is almost finished. Faye asks when Syaoran received his kudan and Syaoran starts to tell them about the dream he had the night before. Meanwhile, Kurogane uses his spatula to lift up the onokomiyaki when someone yells at him to stop. Surprised, he pulls away from the food. The waiters, Touya and Yukito, who were carrying food and drinks, appear at their table. Recognizing them immediately, Syaoran addresses Touya as the king (and calls Yukito "high priest").
