Chapitre 5: Gakusei no Shunkan | The Instant of Awakening
Syaoran-tachi set out around the neighbourhood to look for Sakura's feather. Sorata heads off to work while Arashi promises to look after Sakura. Before leaving, Sorata gives Syaoran a coin purse with money for lunch. Syaoran-tachi wander the city, taking in the different sights and people.
A sidewalk grocer offers them an apple and Syaoran is surprised that was an apple. They realize that in each of their different worlds, certains objects that they would call pear, apple, etc all had different shapes and colours. Annoyed that he was being ignored, the grocer suddenly interrupts and asks if they still want it, to which Mokona does. They each end up trying one (Mokona swallows his whole).
Faye asks Syaoran how he had managed to get to Yuuko's shop and Syaoran tells him about the high priest that had sent them. Kurogane remembers Tomoyo as he tells how she had sent him there by force. Faye laughs and points at him, saying he was being punished. Kurogane also gets angry at being nicknamed again and Mokona falls off his shoulder, unnoticed. Faye had sent himself there but he could only have done it once. He said that the people that sent Syaoran and Kurogane, powerful as they were, could probably have done this only once as well. This was the reason they had ended up at Yuuko's place since they needed to travel through more than one worlds and she was the only one that could do it.
Syaoran looks at his half eaten apple and is reminded of the time when the villagers had offered apples to Sakura and of when they were children and she had brought an entire basketful of apples to him and his father. When a younger Syaoran tells her that everyone in the kingdom loves her, she blushes and smiles happily. His thoughts are interrupted when a gang, each sporting goggles, appears before the crowd. Another team on the ground challenges them, wanting their territory. When Syaoran hears about kudans, his chest becomes hot again. The two groups bring out their kudans to do battle. Buildings are struck and people go scrambling for cover. The leader of the first team, Shougo, releases his kudan and it easily crushes all the kudans from the other team.
As the people run away, one boy slips on the water left from the leader's kudan and falls to the ground. His friend moves to help him up and a sign comes crashing down toward them. Syaoran rushes over to help them and as he shields them with his own body, his kudan appears and incinerates the sign. Shougo mentions that Syaoran has a special kudan.
