Chapitre 1: Hajimari no Sekai | The World of Beginnings

Separated by a thin pane of glass, a boy and girl try to reach out to each other. The boy pounds on the glass although it's futile as the girl watches with tears streaming down her cheeks. Suddenly, wings appear on the girl's back and she's pulled away. In desperation, the boy cries out her name, "Sakura!"

It's the present and a boy returns to his humble home in Clow Country. Inside, he throws off his hood to reveal Syaoran, who greets the picture of his father, Fujitaka, and tells him the excavation is going well and that his father's theory had been correct. He's interrupted by a knock at the door and opens in. The princess of Clow, Sakura, glomps him in greeting and they both fall to the floor. Syaoran still hasn't gotten over addressing Sakura as the princess and she persists on getting him to call her "Sakura". Since the excavators had gone to give their report to her brother and the king of Clow, Touya, Sakura concluded Syaoran had returned home and had come to see him. The both reminisce of how Syaoran and Fujitaka had come to Clow seven years ago to excavate the ruins that Syaoran was still working on to this very day, even after his father had passed on.

However, Sakura can't help but express her loneliless at not being able to see her childhood friend and Syaoran shows that he, too, was lonely without her. The princess is about to express something important to her heart when they are interrupted by the castle's bell. She knows that if she doesn't hurry home at this time, her brother will personally come to get her. And even though she is returning to castle alone, both of them know the citizens of the country are good and nice people. As Syaoran watches her leave, he admits to his father that although he loves her, they can't be together, since she's the princess and he's a mere commoner.

Inside the castle, Sakura is tiptoeing quietly around when her brother catches her. They bicker as siblings usually do, especially since Touya refuses to see Syaoran as more than a brat. The high priest, Yukito, changes the subject to the excavation and Touya can't help but rub in now that there were more ruins discovered, Syaoran would still be too busy for her. Sakura understands that this excavation is important to Syaoran - and thus, important to her - but she still leaves in a huff from his words. Touya admits to Yukito that he can't like Syaoran since he knows that the boy will be his sister's destined person, despite his being a commoner. Yukito has other concerns, however, as he has seen both Syaoran and Sakura will face problems in the coming future. Apparently, Sakura possesses an unusual power, one that can change the world. Still, if Syaoran and Sakura can combine their strengths, they can face anything together. The king refuses to be reconciled that it has to be those two together.

From her room, Sakura looks out at the ruins, thinking of how to tell Syaoran her feelings the next day. A bell sounds, seemingly one that only she can hear and she is drawn to it. Many different images flash before her eyes and when she thinks she sees Syaoran, she's brought out of her reverie, confused.

The next day, Syaoran is still trying to decipher the symbol in the new tunnel they found, not recognizing it as one that belongs to this country, when Sakura hurries down to join him with lunch. The king and high priest had also come to inspect the excavation. She then recognizes the symbol on the floor, having seen it yesterday and her eyes go blank as she touches it. The symbol splits in half and opens, Sakura falling right in. A rumbling is heard by the people outside of the ruins and they wonder if it's an earthquake. In the middle of nowhere, a gap opens a soldiers come rushing out, attacking the people there. Touya quickly draws his own sword. Back underground, Syaoran jumps into the hole and searches for Sakura, finding her afloat before that strange symbol. He climbs up toward her, shocked at the wings appearing on her back, not knowing that someone was watching his every move.

An unknown man mentions that the power of Sakura's wings, Tsubasa, are a power that can pass through space and time. The symbol starts to suck Sakura in and Syaoran makes one desperate leap and pulls her from it, both of them falling to the ground. Her wings vanish and are sent flying away and Syaoran realizes her body is getting colder and colder with each passing moment. Another unknown girl mentions that it failed and the man from before mentioned, without any concern, that it was only the beginning and that in the end, he'll have that power.

Syaoran carries Sakura outside and is shocked to see black clothed soldiers and excavators lying dead and/or injured everywhere. Touya comments with annoyance that he was late before collapsing from a wound festered with poison. Yukito is determined not to let the king die. He then asks about the princess and reads Syaoran's memories to learn what had just happened. The high priest tells him that those wings were Sakura's memories and that without them, she will die. Using his own magic, he sends the two of them to another world, so that he may ask the Witch of Dimensions how to save Sakura. The pair arrive there and when Syaoran sees said witch, he immediately asks for her help to save Sakura.
