1. Sakura and the Mysterious, Magical Book
“Who, Who is calling me?”
During a mysterious night in which the full moon illuminates Toukyou Tower, Kinomoto Sakrua and Kero-chan stand atop a building as Clow Cards dance across the sky. Silenty, Sakura summons Jump and with the newly formed wings on her shoes, she makes a leap of a lifetime towards the tower.
The alarm soon rings and P.E.-loving, math-hating Sakura wakes up from her dreamy sleep. Getting dressed, she races down the stairs and introduces her bully brother Kinomoto Touya, her “Mr. Mom” father Kinomoto Fujitaka, and her deceased mother Kinomoto Nadeshiko. After a small argument between brother and sister which contained many “kaijuu”s (monster) from Touya and Sakura’s wish of becoming as tall as a utility pole, the two go off the school, the heroine scarfing down her breakfast to catch up to her brother.
On the way to school, Tsukishiro Yukito is introduced; the kind, feminine-looking schoolmate of Touya meets the two everyday beside a corner and accompanies them the rest of the way. As the three now make their journey, Sakura’s infatuation with her “Yukito-san” takes over, resulting in blushes, heart-filled eyes, and damaging kicks to Touya’s shin. Turning into her school’s courtyard, Sakura receives a candy from the parting Yukito and meets up with her best friend Daidouji Tomoyo, a smart, musically talented girl, who has a hobby/obsession that involves video taping Sakura’s every move.
However, school today is different for Sakura, as she cannot keep her mind off the dream she had the previous night; she draws a small Kero-like figure in her notebook, she has flashbacks of the dream, and during cheerleading practice, she hallucinates her baton turning into the seal cane she had seen last night. All in all, a very weird day.
Returning home, Sakura heads to the fridge to pick up a snack when she hears strange noises coming from the basement. Worried, she grabs her cheerleading baton, ready to smack any thieves that might have entered her house. As Sakura follows the noises, she enters the basement and finds a book labelled “The Clow.” Opening the dusty book, she is greeted by a pile of cards, picking up the top card on which is written “The Windy,” she slowly reads,
“W-win-windy.”
A rush of wind blows up from under the little girl and all the cards are sent flying, scattering all over the small town of Tomoeda. Soon after, a strange yellow, doll-looking animal exits from the cover of “The Clow.” He introduces himself as Cerberus, guardian of the Clow Cards. Unfortunately, the beast of the seal decided to sleep for thirty years and thus, allowed the cards to be scattered.
After a rushed dinner, Sakura speaks with Cerberus about the whole situation. He insists that Sakura must help him gather the cards because she was the one that read The Windy. Sakura argues back, saying that he shouldn’t have been sleeping. While the two are busy shouting at each other The Fly flies across the window. No matter who wants what, Cerberus must now appoint a new Cardcaptor. After a small ritual in which Sakura receives the book’s key, the two are off to capture The Fly.
“Yami no chikara o himeshi kagi yo! (Key which holds the power of darkness)
Shin no sugata o ware no mae nishimese (Reveal they true self before me)
Keiyaku no moto Sakura ga meijiru! (Under the contract, I, Sakura command you)
'Release!!!'
With this chant, the key transforms into the seal cane and Sakura manages to jump on the huge bird that is The Fly only with some minor, getting-tossed into the air like salad, trouble. Summoning The Windy, the card binds the bird’s movement and Sakura returns The Fly to card state; this is her first real capture ever.
Following a prompt from Cerberus, Sakura uses The Fly, which causes the wings on her cane to enlarge and become real. The two fly off into the night sky, Sakura absolutely giddy about the whole experience.
This is the birth of Cardcaptor Sakura.
