10. Sakura and a Flowery Athletics Meet
Sakura: Today is Tomoeda Elementary School's athletic festival! There are kids who say athletic festivals are a pain so they don't like them. But I love it!
Rika: Sakura, you really run fast.
Sakura: Thanks, Rika.
Sakura: Yukito!
Yukito: You really do run fast.
Touya: She's got no other traits.
Sakura: Is this your lunch? It's huge!
Yukito: I made it with Touya.
Touya: Dad said that he'll come over here when he's done with his presentation at college.
Sakura: I can't complain, it's work.
Sakura: My dad teaches archaeology at college. Not only does he have normal lectures, he's busy going to excavations or research presentations.
Yukito: There is a 100-meter dash that is limited to just parents. I hope your father makes it in time for that.
Sakura: Yup!
Tomoyo: All members of the cheerleading squad, please report in front of the main gate.
Sakura: Oh, it's Tomoyo's voice.
Tomoyo: Repeat…All members of the cheerleading squad, please report…
Yukito: Are you participating too, Sakura?
Sakura: Yes.
Yukito: I'll take a lot of pictures.
Sakura: Later, take a picture of Yukito. You HAVE to!
Touya: Yeah, yeah.
Boy 1: That fourth grader Kinomoto sure runs fast.
Boy 2: Nobody can win against her.
Tomoyo: Not only is Sakura very quick on her feet, she's extremely cute as well!
Sakura: Tomoyo!
Tomoyo: Oh, Sakura!
Tomoyo: Is that the outfit for this routine?
Sakura: Yeah.
Tomoyo: You look lovely…But if there were some frills on the collar, and a large ribbon on it…
Sakura: Is your mother here yet, Tomoyo?
Tomoyo: She said she had a company meeting, but she would rush over when it was done.
Sakura: Tomoyo's mother is the president of a large toy company. She's very busy, and there are days that even Tomoyo can't see her. I've never met Tomoyo's mother, either. That's why I'm looking forward to meeting her. That reminds me, Tomoyo never talks about her father at all…
Sakura: I have to get going now. Make sure to watch.
Tomoyo: I will be cheering you on from here.
Boy 1: She really is cute.
Boy 2: Yeah.
Tomoyo: Well…
Tomoyo: I'm ready now! I must record Sakura's bravery on film!
Yukito: Sakura has gotten much better.
Touya: Well, if you compare to it before.
Touya: When she first joined the squad… You know how she tosses the baton, right? She always caught it with her head.
Touya: See?
Announcer: Next up is the last event of the morning. A race through an obstacle course, for fourth graders only. Everyone, please cheer them on as they overcome many obstacles and head for the finish line.
Tomoyo: Sakura, do your best!
Tomoyo, Chiharu, Rika, and Naoko: Sakura!
Yoshiyuki: On your mark…
Yukito: You can do it!
Syaoran: I'll never lose!
Sakura: Me, either!
Yoshiyuki: Ready!
Tomoyo: Oh, it's just Sakura and Syaoran now.
Yukito: You can do it!
Sakura: I did it!
Sakura: Your mother isn't here yet, Tomoyo?
Tomoyo: No, but I think she'll be here soon…
Sakura: Then, you can have lunch with us.
Tomoyo: Is that all right? To intrude on a nice family outing like that.
Sakura: Of course. Lunch will taste better if there is more people to enjoy it.
Tomoyo: Thank you very much.
Sakura: Hey, Li.
Sakura: U-Um…would you like to have lunch with us too, Li?
Syaoran: Why would I…with you-?
Yukito: Sakura!
Yukito: Lunch is ready!
Sakura: Okay!
Syaoran: I'll have lunch with you…
Sakura: Here, have a piece of the omelet, it's delicious.
Tomoyo: Were these made by your brother and Mr. Tsukishiro?
Tomoyo: They really do look delicious.
Tomoyo: Oh?
Yukito: Oh, sorry, I'm the only one eating…
Sakura: No, it's a good thing to eat a lot.
Yukito: This lunch is really delicious, too!
Syaran: I-It's a sign that you're healthy if food tastes good!
Yukito: That's right.
Syaoran: T-Thanks for this meal!
Fujitaka: I'm sorry I'm late!
Sakura: Dad!
Fujitaka: Oh, I couldn't make it in time for the presentation by the cheerleading squad!
Tomoyo: I have it on video.
Yukito: And I took a lot of pictures.
Fujitaka: Thank you very much. I'm sorry, Sakura.
Sakura: No, I'm glad that you ran over here for me!
Fujitaka: I made these last night.
Fujitaka: I borrowed the refrigerator at the college, so it's very cold.
Sakura: Hey, is there more of this Jell-O?
Fujitaka: There's some in the fridge back home.
Sakura: When I get home, I'll give some to Kero, too.
Fujitaka: I'll go throw out the trash.
Touya: Me, too.
Yukito: Oh, me, too.
Sakura: Li missed out on yummy Jell-O.
Tomoyo: Yes.
Sonomi: Tomoyo.
Tomoyo: Mother!
Sakura: Wow, she's so beautiful…
Tomoyo: Sakura, allow me to introduce…
Tomoyo: This is my mother.
Sonomi: Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Sonomi Daidouji. Thank you for being such good friends with Tomoyo all the time.
Sakura: That's not true. I'm always the one being helped out…
Sonomi: You really are cute.
Sonomi: You look a lot like someone I know…
Sonomi: I've heard a lot about you from Tomoyo, but she never told me your last name. Would you care to tell me what it is?
Sakura: Oh, um…Kino-
Fujitaka: Sakura.
Sakura: Dad!
Sonomi: Mr. Kinomoto!
Fujitaka: Oh, Sonomi…
Fujitaka: I didn't realize it because your last name is different since you were Sonomi Amamiya back when you were a student.
Sonomi: "Sakura." I should have realized it when I heard the name. It was the name that Nadeshiko always said she'd use if she had a baby girl.
Sonomi: I will never ever forgive you!
Fujitaka: It is true that Nadeshiko what just a high school girl back then…and I was a brand-new teacher…
Sonomi: Yeah! You were just a fledgling teacher, and you married one of your students!! And it was my dear Nadeshiko to boot!
Fujitaka: Um…
Sonomi: I had always, always looked after her since kindergarten…so that stupid little bugs didn't attach themselves to her…And yet…To have such a dumb bug like you get attached to her! You let Nadeshiko die when she was only twenty-seven! How can you be so lighthearted like that?!
Fujitaka: I promised Nadeshiko that I wouldn't cry.
Sonomi: In any case, I will never ever forgive you!
Sakura: I guess my dad and Tomoyo's mom know each other.
Announcer: Those running in the Parents' 100-meter Dash…please report to the front gate. Repeat-
Fujitaka: Sorry to keep you waiting.
Sakura: Dad, you're running in the 100-meter dash, right?
Touya: Do you want me to run?
Fujitaka: It's all right. Sonomi told me to make sure I enter the race.
Fujitaka: Where's the front gate?
Sakura: This way.
Yukito: Can I ask the reason for all this? Or should I just stay quiet about it?
Touya: Sonomi used to be Sonomi Amamiya…
Yukito: Wait, Amamiya is the maiden name of your mother, right, Touya?
Touya: Yeah. Sonomi and my mother are cousins. Mother was the only daughter of a famous conglomerate. Dad was just a rookie teacher…She knew she'd face a lot of hardship, but mother got married when she was sixteen. She worked as a model while she went to school…It's not because of that that she became ill…but there were things going on back at mother's old family home…Sonomi had taken good care of mother since they were both little. Apparently, she was against the marriage more than anyone else.
Yukito: But the pictures of Nadeshiko at your house always looked happy, Touya. Even the ones that weren't used in magazines.
Touya: In any case…this sure is a lot of flowers.
Tomoyo: I guess my mother and your father knew each other, Sakura.
Sakura: Yeah. Tomoyo…
Tomoyo: T-That's…
Tomoyo: Mother!
Sakura: Your mother was entering the race, Tomoyo?
Tomoyo: No…
Sakura: Is your mother a fast runner, Tomoyo?
Tomoyo: If I remember correctly, she went to the National Championships back in high school…
Sonomi: I am NOT going to lose!
Yoshiyuki: Ready!
Tomoyo: He is amazing!
Yukito: He's fast!
Touya: Dad is the most athletic member of our family.
Rika: Where are all these flowers raining from?
Chiharu: I can't see anything in this!
Sakura: Can it be…a Clow Card?
Syaoran: It's a Clow Card!
Takashi: Where are you going, Li?
Syaoran: Where…? We've got quite a disaster here.
Takashi: You're right…We're the ones that have to calm down in times like this. We're in charge of the medical tent in the afternoon.
Takashi: Wait!
Takashi: You can't. In case we get any injured people, we have to wait here so they can be treated.
Syaoran: Let me go! The Clow Card…!
Sakura: S-She's running…
Tomoyo: Mother hates to lose.
Rika: I can't move!
Chiharu: I'm going to drown in flowers!
Tomoyo: You are going to use your magic here?
Sakura: Nobody's looking.
Sakura: The Key which hides the powers of the Dark! Show your true form before me! I, Sakura, command you under our contract! RELEASE!
Sakura: FLY!
Sakura: So this is the work of a Clow Card after all?
Tomoyo: At times like this, it is best that we ask an expert about that.
Sakura: W-Where were you holding that?
Kero: Now! It's the Cerberus Super Special!
Kero: My secret attack…!
Kero: What? I am in the deep abyss of depression!
Sakura: Kero, we're in a bind!
Kero: That's the doing of a Clow Card. No doubt about it.
Sakura: Just as I thought. The main quad of the school is full of flowers now!
Kero: For now, look closely. Where are the flowers flying around from?
Sakura: Over there!
Sonomi: Never! I will never ever lose!
Rika: Help!
Chiharu: Someone! I'm going to be buried!
Yukito: You should get to higher ground quickly.
Yukito: We'll hold this for you.
Tomoyo: T-That…!
Tomoyo: Sakura!
Tomoyo: Sakura.
Sakura: It's a Clow Card!
Kero: So what's going on over there?
Tomoyo: We've gotten into a big mess!
Tomoyo: Sakura has suddenly been invited to dance!
Kero: It's a young woman with curly hair, right?
Tomoyo: Yes.
Kero: It's all right. She just loves fun things.
Sakura: What's going on?
Tomoyo: Sakura, if you don't stop the flowers soon…the entire school will be buried under them!
Sakura: Return to the guise that you were meant to be in!
Sakura: FLOWER?
Kero: Yeah, The FLOWER card. Sakura, your school had an athletic festival today, right? FLOWER gets excited when there are celebrations or fun things going on.
Kero: I'm sure it was just trying to cheer everyone up by raining some flowers.
Sakura: And what can this card do?
Kero: It pops out all sorts of flowers.
Sakura: T-That's it?
Kero: Well, now…You got away without getting into much trouble this time, right?
Sakura: We were about to suffocate from all the flowers!
Sakura: What's wrong?
Tomoyo: I forgot to film the whole thing!
Yukito: Congratulations.
Fujitaka: Oh? Tsukishiro and Touya.
Yukito: With this much, you can make a lot of jam.
Touya: Why do we have to do the cleaning at an athletic festival!?
Sonomi: I'm so, so, SO frustrated!
Sonomi: It's been like this since high school! Because I didn't want to give Nadeshiko to my teacher…I kept challenging him over and over! But I always lost!
Fujitaka: I knew how deeply you cared for Nadeshiko.
Fujitaka: It would be rude of me to lose to you on purpose.
Fujitaka: So I always did my best as well.
Sonomi: I still remember your home with Nadeshiko. Living by yourselves in such a tiny apartment! You were a fledgling teacher, yet you came to school together! And you made lunch for Nadeshiko every day! Matching lunch boxes for husband and wife! And furthermore, you went home holding hands!
Sakura: They seem to be arguing…
Tomoyo: Sakura.
Sakura: Huh? But…
Tomoyo: It's all right.
Sakura: Give those two over there flowers. FLOWER!
Sonomi: Why are you so good at cooking. anyway?
Sonomi: A Nadeshiko flower…
Sonomi: Nadeshiko always came by when I had something to say to you. She was always smiling. I was really angry, yet she always broke through my anger with her silly atmosphere. She really was a true airhead...
Fujitaka: It's true that she was a little on the silly side…
Sonomi: I loved Nadeshiko the most.
Fujitaka: Nadeshiko loved you, too.
Sonomi: But…
Sonomi: Nadeshiko seemed happy…ever since she married you…No matter when I saw her, she always had the best smiles of her life.
Sonomi: She was so happy…yet she passed away so early in her life…
Fujitaka: I'm sorry.
Sonomi: Why are you apologizing?
Fujitaka: Because it was I who was granted time with Nadeshiko from her sixteenth to twenty-seventh birthdays.
Sonomi: That's what I hate about you!
Sakura: So the person that looked a lot like me was my mother.
Tomoyo: My mother often spoke about her…her cousin named Nadeshiko. Apparently, the reason she grew my hair like this…was so that my hair would be just like Nadeshiko's.
Sakura: A lot of things happened between dad and the people around him…I wonder if he'll tell us someday.
Tomoyo: I'm sure he will.
Sakura: But, Tomoyo… Your mother really loved my mother.
Tomoyo: Oh, I love you, too, Sakura.
Sakura: Me, too.
Touya: Hey, it's almost the closing ceremonies!
Sakura: Okay! Let's go, Tomoyo.
Tomoyo: Yes.
